World Hoop Day Dance

Tink from Tokyo put together this fun World Hoop Day Choreography and we will be performing it at PHX WHD!

Spend some time watching the video and practicing the dance this week.  She has also provided a written version of the dance to print out and study/practice with.

We will be teaching and practicing the dance during the event and then around 4:30pm we will record the group performing the dance!!

Anybody with video recording and editing skills/equipment is encouraged to PARTICIPATE in making this video.  We will post it to the blog and submit it to Tink to be used in her compilation of videos from groups around the world doing the dance.  As she said... Think global, dance local!

World Hoop Day - What's it all about?

World Hoop Day is a not-for-profit organization that uses a community-based, grass roots approach  dedicated to bringing dance, exercise and toy hoops to under-privileged children living in extreme poverty and the under-developed neighborhoods of our world.  By providing these professional quality hoops, children and their families have the opportunity to experience some fun and joy in what may be an otherwise dismal living situation.

In order to support World Hoop Day and their mission PHX Hoopers is holding a FREE event in Phoenix Civic Space Park on 10.10.10 to bring together our local hoop community and those interested in hooping for a fun-filled, family friendly afternoon in the park.  Their will be plenty of hoops to play with, workshops and one-on-one instruction throughout the afternoon, and new friends to make.  We will also be collecting donations for World Hoop Day in order to support more hoops being delivered to more children around the world.

Please join us!!

Phoenix World Hoop Day 10.10.10!

PHX Hoops is proud to be hosting a celebration for World Hoop Day 10.10.10 at Phoenix Civic Space Park.

The celebration is slotted to run from 3:00 - 6:00pm.

This is a participant created event so we are looking for YOU to participate!  Whether you are an expert hooper and seasoned performer or you are just curious about what all the Hoop-lah is about,  we need YOU to come Participate.

Here are some ideas of how you can Participate:
  • Create a mini-workshop of your favorite hoop dance moves/tricks and share it with other hoopers on 10.10.10
  • Create a shirt, button/badge or other accessory that reads "New to Hooping?  Ask me How!" and share tips with new hoopers on hoop dance basics
  • Choreograph a hoop dance (solo or group) and come perform it on 10.10.10.  Civic Space Park has a stage area.  We expect to have a small PA system, but please come prepared with your own iPod/speakers and music.
  • Bring every hoop you own (we tend to build up quite a collection!) and spread them on the grass so the hoop curious can try them out.  ** Consider gifting some of your old hoops to new hoopers **
  • Bring a friend and spend a nice afternoon in the park learning to hoop and watching our talented comunity perform their creations!
  • Lead a hoop making demonstration.  ** Consider having a simple handout with step by step instructions for other participants to take home **
  • Make a donation to World Hoop Day - A Charity for Children to help bring hoops of joy and hope to under-served and under-priveleged communities around the world.  Look for the information table and donation jar near the stage area.  All donations collected during the event will be forwarded to World Hoop Day on behalf of the PHX Hoopers Community.
